Just a little FYI for those who buy batteries at Costco

This may not be new to anyone else, but last fall I restocked my battery stash at Costco.  I was almost completely out of every size.  I get a full "card" of each size as often as I can afford but only get up to the closest Costco (in Billings, Montana) about once a year. They usually have Duracell and then their house brand, Kirkland.  For some reason I decided to get some of each.  It turns out, and this may be common knowledge that I have missed until now, the Duracell batteries are well into their shelf life at Costco. At least this batch was. I found this out by having to replace the 9 volt in my digital combo pad for my safe.  Yes, it caused a short panic attack.  The 8 month old 9 volts (I tried several from the new Duracell package) could not power the digital pad.  Luckily, I bought the Kirkland ones too.  Fired right up.  Anyway, I am noticing that the Duracell AA's for my computer mouse last about 2 weeks, the AAs for the CO detectors last about 3 months and the Duracell ones could not even light up the digital thermostat for my furnace. The flashlights are all very dim too- both C and D.   Good grief.  They were expensive.  Just thought I would share.  I am using up the Duracell stash as fast as I can, since I had thought they would last on the shelf for a couple of years but they won't.  They are stored in a cool, dark, dry place-in case someone thinks that is may be an issue? These may be copies and not genuine Duracell batteries.  It has been known.  Clipper have the same problem with lookalikes not having the same quslity.  There should be a Best before date on the pack on Duracell.  If in date it's probably a rip off.

I have stored batteries in a freezer and never had a problem with battery age ...even years later.

I would suspect some of the issue to be that most people who buy batteries at Costco buy Kirkland so the turnover is much better. I've never had an issue with Kirkland batteries.
