I’m still relatively new to the gardening scene, but I was wondering if anyone had any success growing buckwheat between their rows of root vegetables (beats, carrots, radishes, etc.) and of it had any benefit to the crop?
I sowed my carrots last week and just sowed buckwheat beside them today. Interested to see how it turns out.
I Travis. I certainly have had success in that situation. Not only is it a dynamic accumulator but bees flip out for it! I wouldn’t plant it right next to the carrots but several inches away should be fine. Since it grows fairly quickly it will give those little carrots some shade and humidity control. Plus, it’s so versatile. I have some on swales that get fourteen hours of sun per day. I also have it growing in tree guilds with much less sun. I have found that it grows best in less than perfect soil. To rich and it doesn’t do well for me. I really likes how it self seeds also.
When everything is looking lush and green post some pics here for us to enjoy!
Regards, Scott
