Wondering how many people peruse this site and set of forums in my neck of the woods. Or well my neck of the prairies. I am in far North Dakota near the Canadian border with Saskatchewan.
I was
native to Texas, and lived in Georgetown until 2016. Then I came to ND where I have .34 of an acre and I've done organic
gardening in both states, albeit very different here of
course with the shorter growing season but awesome soil. The attitude toward
permaculture ranges from 'what's dat?' to 'get real!' as most farms are commercial. Even family farms are kind of 'family' only in name but operate like a mega corporate farm, and the agri laws here reflect that. There are of course some small family farms though that operate in a more
permie way and Gabe Brown is the one example of someone who has made a success of combining the ability to make money while simultaneously focusing on soil health, not compromising ethics while making a living as well.
It would
be nice to see some kind of venture here, as
WWOOF has an absence of a ND presence even with all this freaking wide open space and agriculture based economy. Most agro programs are not permie in nature though some are still worthwhile in other ways. We have a large amt of
beekeeping but not the Thomas Seeley variety.
So if anyone is in this general area and wants to start some sort of permie meetup/gardening club or venture to grow food forests and what-not, please speak up (do not forever hold your peas).
