So yeah. I live in Syracuse (Mattydale / Town of Salina to be exact) and have always liked the idea of a
wood stove. I was just stumbling around on YT (I live alone and I like some of the survivalist videos because they give me ideas I never would have thought of to try to save money) and of
course stumbled on some of the
rocket mass heaters and viola, here I am.
I would LOVE to have one of those babies in my house.
Mostly because National Grid charges people in my area the highest heating rates IN THE NATION and as Hillary Clinton once said, take NYC out of the equation and we would be in the bottom poorest states in the country.. so yeah. I reallllly want to get out of using my furnace (Natural Gas) and go to a
wood stove instead, and I like the idea of staying off corrupt companies' payrolls as much as possible, saving money, etc, but I have some basic questions..
My home, like most in the area, is in a suburban little area.. I mean, suburbia to the max here.. I'm not opposed to sneaking one in illegally if need be though I hope it would be legal. It's a 3 level house (basement, 1st floor, and second story).. would a
rocket mass heater be good for a three-level home like mine? My bedroom is on the top floor and my living room on the main floor.. ideally I'd like to have the RMH either in the basement or on the 1st floor. Is there a way to hook one of these up to an existing heating duct system to spread the heat throughout the home? I'm a single female living in her own home here, so I don't have much 'male help' around that would help me complete a
project like this... And my mom would probably look at me like I was crazy and she's really the only person strong
enough to help me dig into the ground here to do stuff like this. I don't have any hills or anything though, and the house has all existing masonry and such - I think the only logical location for one is the living room, currently. But if it's something where the heat could be transferred to the vents, I'd love to have it in my basement instead to keep the whole house warm. (I prefer mid-70s and putting the thermostat that high is like asking for a $500 bill for a month... so I have to freeze at 65... and if a
rocket mass heater can work on mere sticks... well my three massive maple
trees in the
yard shed sticks like my husky/shepherd sheds fur, lol...)
Anyway, any advise is greatly appriciated.. I just really wanna get a different heating solution in here... I'm looking at getting zeer pots and stuff for refrigeration /
root cellars too, so yah. :3 I just wish I knew about this site sooner!
