ground cherry vs. sunberry/wonderberry

I'd like to plant a sweet berry that can be eaten raw (i.e., not for preserves/jams) in my garden in the spring. I'm in USDA Zone 5. Annual rainfall is about 34 in/year, and about 75% of that falls in the growing season. Does anybody have a strong preference in taste (or any other practical considerations) between ground cherry vs. sunberry (also called wonderberry). My primary purpose for my family to eat right out of the garden. If we have a surplus, I suppose the chickens could have some, too.

Thanks.

Ground cherry is one of the best tasting fruits in my garden, far better than sunberry fresh or prepared. I grow both. The only thing its peak ripeness is in the summer. Im in zone 6. Also, ground cherry likes sun with cool feet and they are a heavy feeder. I grow mine GC in a thick mulch leaf pile, keeps their feet cool and moist. My chickens love them but only if I pick them and remove the husk first!?

Thank you very much. That's just what I needed to know. Funny about the chickens...lazy birds
