Palm fronds instead of cardboard for weed barrier in sheet mulching???

I live where palms live and would like to put them to work! Has anyone used palm fronds as a weed barrier layer in a sheet mulch bed?

I imagine a few overlapping palm fronds aught to do the trick but figured I'd see if anyone has experience with this. Thanks for your help!

OK I don't live where there are palms and have never worked with them but the clue would be to observe how palm fronds "act" when they are on the soil..do they rot, or are they still there years later..does water shed or soak into them..that type of observation should be able to tell you how you can use them..also note if they seem to kill off any plants that they are near..if so they might be alleopathic..but if not..sure..use them in any application that they seem fit for

Thanks for the reply and nice blogspot! I like your recommendation to just observe. I plan on hiking around a local forest to see how palm fronds interact with the forest floor.

I also have no palm trees, but I would expect where cardboard completely smothers the ground palm fronds will allow certain weeds to seek through between the "fingers"?
