Hey folks, I'm curious about your experiences with saved seed from cross-pollinated pepo squash. I ask, because one of the community garden areas I've seen has just about every type of pepo squash growing in close proximity to each other. Things like acorn, zucchini, yellow crookneck/straightneck, etc. Bonus points for pictures.
Dirty hands + a sweaty handkerchief = hope for the future.
My spaghetti zucchinis wound up awesome. They were zucchinis when small, and spaghetti squashes when large. Bush habit. Super long shelf life, even when harvested immature. They will mature from zucchinis into spaghetti squash off the plant if you harvest them as zucchinis.
Another gardener I know in my area has an acorn / delicata cross that she says is fantastic.
Just let 'em mix up. You'll probably get something nice.
I harvested it after two weeks on the plant. It was green and soft at the time. I left it my closet for six months. It turned into a spaghetti squash with a very hard rind. I cut it open and ate it and saved the now-completely-mature seeds inside. Very tasty.
