So.......... here I am... a few months later, minus a few details. What a great place to hang out !
I may dive into these forums for a few more months until I emerge as an expert is self-sustainablity.
Meanwhile... I have a little garden... and that's a maybe.
I might even be interested in working with a community of people creating a forest garden.
For now... to work learning.
Thanks for all the great advice you're giving. This really is the future.

We're almost neighbors !!

In the 70's I knew a few people who settled in Arkansas.
At the time it seemed a LOT of people were moving there.
The land was cheap, I guess.
The people I knew built wicker furniture, lived in a cave, I think.
Seed ticks. All I remember is seed ticks.
I stayed in the city.

I missed this post somehow. Were you in Stone Co.? The first time I had seed ticks crawling up my legs I didn't have a clue what they were...I just ran for the river. That was seventy three and I'm maybe a little more comfortable with ticks now and definitely better at avoiding them. Wicker furniture (bentwood twig maybe?) in a cave? I knew a twig furniture maker and we used to have overflow company hike up to the rock shelter/caves above us but no real cave dwellers.
Land was cheap ...fifty an acre... we were being sold what we found out later they called "hippie land" now it would be perfect pemaculture land I think with all of it's challenges.

Yes, I did! No familiar names but interesting story...thank you. There are still a lot of crafts people in our area even though many have gone elsewhere.
