Part of the problem with them is the fibrous
root system under the tree that will choke out anything that tries to grow there. They are weed
trees, imho, and you'd do better to
sell them for
firewood and put something better in their place. Many experts list them as one of the worst invasive species in the tree category.
Many developers plant invasive species, tho, because they're so bulletproof they can survive the compacted subsoil that's in place once they're done putting the home in. Then people see that's what everyone else has in their yards and want to follow suit so they plant them too, so the nurseries see they sell well and stock ever more of them. It goes on and on.
