Social media, liars, cons and gurus

I found this article to be quite fascinating. I used twitter briefly and haven't used it or other social media sites since around 2009. Much has changed it seems, much is still the same.

It reminded me of something Claire Wolfe blogged about a while ago, that when someone thinks they've found a guru, to speak the letters aloud, "Gee, you are you." She also linked to this piece by Mark Twain which I was not familiar with at the time. How many people are taking the advice to shake a turnip tree just because an "expert" said that was the best way?

Does Paul have a twitter account? Maybe gather some choice quotes from the past five(?) years on the forums into a database and have it churn them out at regular intervals, at least he isn't bullshitting

Yep, between Claire Wolfe and Jackie Clay-Atkinson, I think BHM has some of the best. I'm glad Dave pays them both to blog too as it always feels like too long between issues.

I keep wondering when permaculture will show up in their pages, the goals are much the same. I fear it may have been lumped in with greenwashing which the editors are very wary of but it is a pretty active subject on their forums. I think many of Paul's articles would be well-received as he doesn't play the green proselytizing game in them. Just good information for homesteaders. That may be a very receptive market for rocket mass heaters, hugelkultur, etc. More brains to infect.
