In hotter climates, hydroponic and aquaponic growers have problems keeping NFT (nutrient film technique) systems cool enough--the trickle of water heats too much and tends to cook roots, even with white pipes.

My problem is I want to keep tilapia in a relatively cold climate and don't want to heat a greenhouse.

The problem is the solution....

What if I make black pipe NFT pipes high in the system mainly as the solar heaters--they will be planted in cooler seasons and left empty during the summer. I was thinking of tying them into the air circulation system since they will be at the upper layer of air with a bunch of intake holes to pull in warm air and circulate it through the mass.

Crazy?

Sounds like you want something like this. Many videos for aluminum can solar heaters, just be careful, they work really well, get really hot, and you'll want a thermostat setup so as not to cook your fish.
