gmo tree street lamp ?

I just learned about some folks who want to do some genetic modifying with trees and lightning bugs to get trees that produce light. If it worked you would have a lighting source that needs no energy input other than photosynthesis. Would this be awesome or a really dangerous chance to take when it comes to f'n with nature?

I'm of the opinion that if lightning bugs are already gettin' it on with trees and creating genetically unique offspring, then hell yeah, go for it. This is probably just an eventuality anyway.

However, if an insect cannot breed with a tree, then we have no business f'ing with nature in this manner. What would the effects be on nocturnal species if(when) this tree escaped confinement and began spreading into the wild as gmo canola is doing already? At least it would be easy to distinguish in the wild at night...
