auctioning off the creek name

There is no creek.

I will put one in.

I am thinking of auctioning off the creek name to get rid of debt.

I am looking for feedback on this idea.

Good idea?

I've heard the podcasts and seen the posts where you talk about this, and it's struck me as probably being a pretty small part of your income plan. Probably.

That's because in an auction you have one winner- only one person gets their name on the creek, even if twenty or twenty thousand people want to play. So if you have a lot of people participating in the auction, or if you have a few very rich people, or one serious angel, you might get a big chunk, but otherwise (off the top of my head) you might get 600-2000$ for the naming rights. And you might end up with "GOLDEN PALACE TM creek".

I'd suggest setting a reserve at a level you're comfortable with. And maybe excercising a veto over names that don't fit your vision. Hm.

I'll bid $50, just to see people try and figure out how to spell Luedtke consistently.

I would put up $51, to name it "Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis Creek" ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis )

But then I'd bid against myself and go for "A Creek" , "The Creek" , then "Poop Creek", "First Creek", "Nameless Creek", and wait for it.... of course "Manure Creek" and having that out of the way...

A $58 bid to allow the to be named "Dynamic Creek".

Hmmm... $58, I think Paul is going to be disappointed... I'll bid $65 to name it Pie river.

I was thinking that selling the names of a dozen things on the land might cover half the debt. And the creek might be biggest ticket item. If I put it on ebay, I thought I would start it at $3000 and then maybe I would get $5000 to $8000. But I am beginning to think that that could be more likely to happen in some other format.

Your podcast about "Paul's farm" and "That's my tree, that's my flower", etc. spawned an idea...

How about a wethetrees/indigogo fund where you sell off the naming of trees and flowers ($1/flower, $5/bush, $10/tree, $5000/creek).

I can whip something up to watermark photos with their suggested name.
I'd even take the pictures!

What about selling name space on a plaque that would be at the entrance of the farm?

I think doing something with wethetrees could be one way to play this.

I do think it could be possible to sell the name of the first lemon tree.

I also think some apples from seed could be named.

I think the farm entrance needs to be vague and boring.

I wonder if a 'public' auction would be a good idea vs having it open to like-minded people.

On something like ebay, it would be far too easy for "Monsanto Creek" to outbid "Rainbow Creek".

If 'they' knew you, and your plans, 'they' could easily afford $100,000, and be able to publicly say "Look at how green we are. We financed Paul's dream farm."

Iv'e got $83 to name it 'Monsanto Creek'. Eventually they'll find out about it and be forced to send a cease and desist letter.... then the P.R. writes it's self.... though intentionally picking loosing fights with Multibillion dollar companies that own their own Mercenary army.... maybe not the wisest short term course of actions.

Okay, $92 for "Monsanto Roundup UnReady Creek" , or MRURC for short.

Only a few hundred more bad names before we get to the price targets...

$100, for "D'Nile Creek" ? Nah, probably still to negative... it needs something positive... "Dihydromonoxide, creek?"

$120, for "Happy creek".
