So I have been really loving the Dirt Locker thingies that I'm seeing, but I'm really not comfortable with using plastic - even though it's a next best use (recycled). Also, they're spendy. I found that with corrugated garden trim 12" tall (the same height as DLs), I can get 5 of them for under $50. And metal flashing would give me 12 for about the same ($50).
In all cases, you need sturdy hooks to hold the material in shape.
So I'm wondering... would the flashing be strong enough to hold about 115 lb (dry) of soil? That's dry weight. It might be almost twice that wet. 1.5 cuft of soil, which is less than half a wheelbarrow load.
I have some slopes around my house that I'd really like to make usable. This would significantly increase surface area, places to sink water, and probably make it easier up and down those slopes, too.
What do you all think? Anyone tried this with flashing or similar?
Thanks heaps,
