I want to make a $1000 rainforest conservation donation this year. Can you give some recommendations for a reputable org? What's the best way to ensure the money gets converted to land saved, permanently?

While I know of no specific charity, I do have some guidelines I use for USA based charities. … guidestar.org provides financial information on NPOs.   You can look through their tax filings without a charge.   I make a point of looking up the salary of the CEO.   While I have no problems with a CEO making a wage reflecting their education, experience, and responsibilities, there are some salaries that chase me away.   Or, sometimes the information is outrageously vague.  Besides the issue of salaries, I also try to find $$ spent on marketing.  I have encountered charities spending well more than 50% of their income on marketing.  In other words, their business is getting donations and not fulfilling their mission.
