I have 30 year old carpets with heavy traffic. I also have a Rainbow Vacuum cleaner with the Aquamate cleaning attachment. Since I devoutly believe in using cleaners you can eat, I put a bit of my nontoxic laundry powder in the soap bin, but mostly filled the thing up with water and vinegar.
The day after giving the carpet a wash, in spite of its advanced age and condition, it looks so bright, fluffy, and the spots are all gone. It's a pleasure to be in the living room. I am just amazed at what vinegar can do. It is truly a gift.
