This looks more like witch hazel (Hamamelis) to me. Those are either the buds or the seedpods, and the leaves I see are rounded-toothed (true hazels are sharp-pointed toothed) Spidery yellow blooms
should open pretty soon in the fall if it's the common Eastern wild species, or else in midwinter-spring if it's a more uncommon one or one of the introduced Asiatic species....
