Hi gang. My boyfriend and I are looking to acquire a 10-15 acre plot of land in Manitoba, somewhere within two hours of Winnipeg. Needs to be cheap, preferably not previously farmed, and services are not necessary. Any ideas people?

Howdy Amanda, welcome to permies.
You might want to make another post under the great white north threads too, here...

Look at a map (road and aerial - paper or electronic) find some towns and topography that you like. Suggest drawing a circle around the towns that's roughly a 20min drive, it's generally a mistake to go way the hell away from people (we're social animals, and also need to buy stuff) then start looking around.

Drive around the areas, get a feel for it. Is the area full of farmers who spray spray spray (not that Lake Winnipeg is any indicator), you may want to look for old grazing land or abandoned orchards.

Best of luck
