test wind turbine build

I built a small wind turbine to keep mind and hands busy while I'm on contract away from home.

This is Mark I. Mark II will be considerably sturdier.

It was a blast to build. I can see putting up 4 or 5 of these with bigger motors. No gearing needed.

John, I don't.

The turbine was "mark I". That's my term for something thrown together for testing. I'm wrapping up "mark II" right now and should have most of it done tomorrow.

The only part of the electric scooter I'm using is the motor. This turbine has gears as well, so I'll get more cranks per revolution.

It will take more wind to go than Mark I because of the gearing. I went with drive chain and gears from the tractor store. Heavier duty than bike drive chain and gears. I'll probably lose some efficiency there, but I also think the extra weight will act as a fly wheel.

I need to secure the motor to its drive shaft and also hook the blades up.

I'll document the build once I have a successful test run.
