Benny, where are you? Need more information. About all you have told us is that tulips grow there and you have snow there. What zone are you in. You didn't fill out your location in your profile so it makes it hard for people to help you. I grew up in Northern Lower Michigan so Know a little about planting in a mild because of the lakes zone 4/5 but I'm now living in zone 9 Florida.
The South East exposure you have there sounds like a good location but certain things might tend to break dormancy too early if planted there and you might need to be careful of planting them there (Like cherrys or apples.)
Once you finish that carport, perhaps you could put a trellis there to grow some climbing veggies right up near the wall.
