Hi guys,
I got this email and now can comment on this topic because I also priced natural bedding years ago and they were $1,000. I have a friend whos parents make the cotton cover wool stuffed mattresses in Turkey. Hes going to see how much it will cost to make and send a couple covers and specifics about the stuffing.
They wash in borax. They stuff new wool as needed every year. I dont know about flammability but will ask.

he thinks that its flammable because the US treats wool with sulfiric acid and the natural oils DO protect the wool.

The lanolin will burn, but Borax should wash enough away for that to not be a concern. Even with full lanolin, it would burn slower than, say, polyester that most mattresses use.
