At the heart of
permaculture is a set of teachings from nature. These principles, directives, strategies, approaches, attitudes and design methods can be applied to any system of design and development. This is part of Nature's toolkit for creating and maintaining relationships, approaching challenges and opportunities, and creatively addressing the unique conditions of any site or situation. In 2012 we shared a 64 card design deck. After sharing this with some of the Pioneers of
Permaculture and collecting more of these valuable insights, we decided to release an extension set!

Toby Hemenway observes the nature creates self-renewing, super productive and ultra resilient systems. He see permaculture principles which share the lessons of nature are 'indicators of
sustainability'. This card deck features tools in the permaculture toolkit including principles, directives, strategies, attitudes, design methods, decision making protocols and ethics sourced from elders of the Permaculture Movement. This is a collection of foundational concepts that can support any
permaculture design process. Mixing
art, symbol, photo and text, this creative learning and teaching toolkit inspires new insights and deepened understandings about the applications of permaculture. The
cards help support a permaculture journey for people of all ages and
experience levels. There are not instructions for utilizing the set, instead we encourage people to develop
games and curriculum to suite their own needs and creative ideas.
These beautifully illustrated, full color, double sided
cards are available as an open source files for download at the gaiacraft website. It's likely more affordable and less work to order the professionally printed cards which are die cut with round edges from an on-demand printer who can mail it to you anywhere in the world.
