Does anyone know where to buy yacon roots? I want to buy some to plant in my garden and am having a hard time finding anyone to buy them from. Thanks

Here's an option: http://www.raintreenursery.com/Yacon.html

Note that they don't grow tubers until late in the year. If you get early frost you'll need to protect the plant. Ideally, I try to delay harvest until December.

You can also try Nichols.
They also have Oca.

Not all of these Andean crops will do well at lower altitudes.
A good read on these crops is Lost Crops of the Andes (free PDF)

Thank you! It is so frustrating trying to find the unusual plants that Geoff recommends. I will probably plant it inside my earthship or maybe at the sunny end of the rabbitry that gets enclosed with plastic when frost is near.

Did you try and did you like it? I grew it first time last year and I am in love with a flavor -more like a juicy fruit than a tuber. However it does have inulin, which some people find hard to digest, so best to use in smaller amounts. I have white one, it would be fun to try purple and pink varieties.
