OK for mushrooms?

These logs are from a windfall this winter. Anyone know if these oak rounds will be OK to inoculate with mushroom spawn?

They may not have enough juice left in them, but I would try it--you could get low yields or competing fungi, though.

"Logs should be cut to lengths of 3-4 feet, and are best if they do not exceed 14 inches in diameter." http://www.fungi.com/plugs/index.html
But if I were you I would give it a try. The plugs are not that expensive and even if the crop is somewhat less it will be worth it. I need to say I have no experience whatsoever.

I've read some species, like button mushrooms, have more vigorous mycelia that are more competitive, and less likely to be overwhelmed by what is already in the wood.
