I think its a type of willow:


Grows right at the edge of my pond.
Cows & sheep thought it was tasty.

That certainly looks like some species of willow to me. There are over 100 species of willows (Salix spp.) native to North America (quite a few in New England, too), and they are difficult to identify to species. But cows don't care which one they are, they just eat'em all!
