Hi Folks,

Actually, after reading this article, it looks like it needs  some permaculture redo.

Passing this along from CFSA:

Farming Opportunity - Ashe County, Lansing, NC

Nestled into the Appalachian mountains at 3200 feet elevation sitting on the southern side of Grayson highlands park just inside North Carolina lays a farm (Rose Mountain Farm) of 28 acres that is in need of younger hands to take it and care for it. The option is to offer the growing area up for rent for a very small amount. I want the farm to be available to younger people to try their hand at growing local food. The name will be changed by the newest farmer!

Infrastructure for growing organic produce includes 4 Tunnels: 1-20 by 100, 2- 18 by 100 and the newest one is 22 by 125. All have poly that is less than 4 years old, drip irrigation and low flow spring irrigation plus 1500 gallon rainwater collection. The tunnels have been under intense soil improvements with on farm compost and no till farming methods. Currently the farm supplies a local grocery store year round with leafy greens and winter staples of squash and onions. There is a new road built up to the tunnels for ease of access.

Additional ongoing farm income streams include willows for basketry and livestake sales to river bank restoration projects.

While there are presently livestock on-farm, they will likely be sold unless specific other arrangements can be made with the new farmer.

The farm maintains  productive relationships with local NCSU and NCA&T Cooperative Extension Agents who will be available to assist with organic IPM and fertility recommendations and other farm development needs throughout 2026 and beyond.

The farm seeks to partner with the right person who will commit to organic methods and will continue current market relationships with a small local grocery store, along with supplying tomatoes to a local niche  pizza restaurant from July to December. A new farmer will have the option to continue a 2 year relationship with another local farmer who does a bulk amount of seed starting and will be again available if the new farmer wishes to purchase trays of seedlings vs starting all one’s own seeds. Market relationships with the local grocery and pizzeria have continued for 12 years and are strong and committed. Joining the 2 (Ashe county and Lansing) local farmers markets for additional sales will be the new farmer’s decision.

I am offering a one year li cost trial to the right person or people to continue growing and learning and expanding relationships. The farm is not currently for sale. I will be available minimally for mentorship to the next caretakers. You will have access to the high tunnels and a 1/8th acres permaculture bed of horseradish and rhubarb,  60 espalier apple trees, each tree of a different heirloom variety all near 5-7 years old  now.

They offer is only for people who would consider living on the farm full-time. There is a 35 foot camper available with electricity, woodstove, composting toilet, outside shower, wifi and spring water nearby. There is a farmstand with electricity and wifi. The remainder of the farm is off grid, and a tiny house A frame for an intern, currently housing an intern who works every Tuesday and Thursday for the completion of this semester. She receives housing and food for her 2 days of work and is here for a learning opportunity not free labor.
If this sounds like an opportunity that you would like to consider please contact me asap via email at rosemountainfarm@gmail.com

Warmest regards
Ann Rose

I've read about this kind of thing at the checkout counter. That's where I met this tiny ad:
