Hello everyone,

people interested in Earthships are probably familiar with the concept of cool tubes used for passive cooling.

About 10 years ago we started experimenting with different ideas for a small off-grid building inspired by Earthship principles. At the time we were exploring very simple approaches to temperature regulation and thermal mass.

Since cool tubes require the underground for the piping prepared and a bit more infrastructure, we were curious if there might be very basic alternatives or additions that could help stabilize indoor temperatures.

Recently we rediscovered the old footage from that experiment and turned it into the first video for a project we now call Sierra Oasis, where we document ideas and experiments related to off-grid living and earthship-inspired building.

Here is the video:

I would really be interested in hearing from people here who have practical Earthship experience.

- Have you experimented with additional thermal mass inside buildings that already use cool tubes?
- Have you seen other simple passive cooling tricks or additions that work well in small structures?

This was one of our early experiments and we are currently revisiting some of these ideas and documenting them.
I know that plastic doesn't have good thermal conductivity compared to aluminum, but that's what we improvised with at the time.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and experiences.

Kind regards,
Desi and Andre
