calling all fellow weirdos

hi

i’m new to the site but not totally new to the culture. i’ve spent a lot of my life being an “outsider” & was over the moon to find a place full of people who seem to think like i do! so i suppose i should introduce myself a bit

i’m kasey & i’m 23 years old. i’m originally from way, way up in the adirondack mountains but now living in western washington.

i grew up a semi-feral child (lol), rarely clothed & living at least mostly off the land in a town of no more than 250 people. 90% of the meat i ate before the age of 10 was either free-range chicken raised on our farm, deer hunted on the back half of the property, or fish/crawdads/frog legs from the creek out back. it was a very close-knit community where if you weren’t related by blood then you were related by heart. to say we were hillbillies would be an understatement lol.

all that to say that is not the life that i have been living for the last decade or so & let me tell you, moving away would not have been my choice if i had had a say in the matter.  i was 100% not cut out for the city life. i’ve always joked that i must’ve missed the memo on how to be human. for a long time i thought it was just the unfortunate reality of coming from what was, at least culturally, an entirely different world. turns out 23 years later that would all be explained w a long overdue autism diagnosis :3 who’d have guessed

i find myself feeling more “home” among nature, especially w animals. the earth is an amazing, beautiful thing & it hurts my heart to see so many people not taking a more active role in its preservation. i hold the belief that human beings were simply not meant to have progressed this quickly & this far in terms of technological advancement. it has turned our brains to mush & made us greedy & way too reliant on instant gratification to care about the world around us outside of what we gain. but i’ll stay off the soapbox at least for now hehe.

at this point in my life my hobbies include playing wilderness survival video games to fill the hole in my heart left by leaving my backwoods lifestyle, collecting kuromi memorabilia (yes i know an autistic sanrio nerd, shocker), & hanging out w my cat named poody who may as well be my child. i’d like to get back to my roots & at the very least start gardening again but my living situation doesn’t allow for much space for outdoor activities at the moment. i’m also trying to get into yoga as a means of grounding & just staying active but i’m VERY new so i wouldn’t consider it a true hobby of mine just yet

i don’t currently have very many friends at all due to the combination of not always having the best “radar” when it comes to people’s ill intentions & struggling to meet people who think like i do in the first place. if anything i wrote hit home for you or if you have any advice for a young person getting back into the homesteading/off grid lifestyle please feel free to message me!!
