Been in the sustainable packaging space for a while now, and one thing that surprised me early on — straws are a genuinely tiny fraction of ocean plastic by weight. Fishing gear and general packaging dominate. But conservation groups still use straws deliberately as a public engagement tool because they're visible and emotionally easy to grasp, which turns out to be a legitimately effective strategy for building broader awareness.
Found a good writeup on how this plays out in school programs and local conservation campaigns:

Curious if anyone here has used similar "small visible object → bigger lesson" framing for other sustainability topics with kids or community groups.
