Hi Steve, I'm very much looking forward to your book (and have been for months (years?))

How many acres would you estimate as a minimum for having a profitable forest farm venture?

I know the answer will include a lot of 'it depends', since the type of forest you're starting with will make a big difference, but if you can speak to this in a ballpark way from your experience, that would be very useful.

I'm in the final negotiations for access to a chunk of land with a one acre mixed nut grove, and 14 acres of hay, which we intend to gradually transition to forest gardens/restoration agriculture, but there is also a riparian buffer between the plot and the river, and a wooded hillside with some pine forest at the top which we're considering bringing into our plans for the venture.
