I was looking for wood stove/ fireplace/ masonry heater codes the other day, but was unable to find anything. Not sure where I should be looking. Didn't seem to be in the state building code, and couldn't find anything through my town's website either.

Where should I be looking? For those of you who have successfully read your local or state code or whatever, where did you find it?

Insurance agent was really helpful in tracking it down for us. Made sure to tell him we were just THINKING about it yet, but needed to know what it would do to the rates.

The chimney pipe manufacturers have really good documents online, and a few OK videos as well. Look at all of them, not just the brand you buy. Their stuff exceeds most code requirements, but I am sure there are exceptions.

Cool. Short-term I wanted to check out the chimney pipe stuff, and see what it would take to get my Woodstock going. after that I could start brainstorming the feasibility of a masonry stove build.

The requirements for masonry heaters are, on the whole, less stringent than for woodstoves (rightly so, because of their lower surface temperatures).

so it finally dawned on me to check the FIRE CODE, which sort of led me in the right direction. I found all the wood stove/ chimney stuff I was looking for, but it didn't include anything about masonry heaters there is a big section on masonry fireplaces, but that's not what I need to know for a masonry heater I'm guessing. I guess I also only looked at one flavor of fire code, but came across more, so I'll keep looking.
