Looking for recommendation of 1000W off grid inverters for solar installtions

I am looking for a solid and reliable 24VDC MSW inverter for 120V outputting 1000W. I own a PowerBright 24V, 900W inverter which does a very good job but I recently recommended that same model to 2 friends and they both had a very bad experience: one was bad out of the box and the other died after a week of usage. So either there is a quality control issue or they did a new revision of the circuit board.

Any suggestions on good inverters?

The inverter I went with is the Cotek SK-1000-124. This is a pure sine inverter, with sleep mode. 2 year warrenty. $364 with free shipping.

I am really happy with my Whistler XP1200i. I've been using it on my boat this last summer and it has worked very well.

@Gerard: Thanks for the suggestion but pure sine is currently too pricey.

@Tom: what do you run from it. Is it connected to a fridge?

My electric cooler is 12v so it doesn't run off of the inverter. But I do have a small microwave, toaster and and blender I use it for. The boat also was originally wired with 120v lighting, which I've now replaced with LED bulbs, so I can run that off of the inverter when not on shore power. Also, the occasional use of small power tools happens when I'm not on shore power and it has worked well for everything so far.

I just checked the Whistler website and they only seem to have 12V inverter but i would need 24V. Any other recommendations?

I've read (but have no experience with) modified square wave inverters being hard on refrigerator and freezer compressors which is why I went with Pure Sine Wave. It sounds like you've been running your fridge with modified square wave with no problems.

I have a sine wave too but they are 3-4x the cost. I am looking to keep the cost low for a working system.
I do have a well working installation with the PowerBright 24V, 900W. The problem is that all newly bought models (4 units) are failing after some days of operation. The next model up is 1500W - it looks as if that is the only option.
