This might be a dumb question, but a recent windstorm uprooted a beautiful douglas fir by my pond. Is it possible to dig a deep hole and re-plant it? It seems the roots on the doug fir can be much shallower than you might think.
Pavel, It's unlikely, in my experience, it would work. But if you want to try, dig a hole the same size as the exposed roots, deeper won't help. Best of luck.
