Hi there. I possibly developed a source where I can get Cascade 100% Douglas Fir Wood Pellets for free (rather than discardithe broken bags the pellets come in a friend will save them for me). I plan to incorporate the wood pellets to aid in sheet mulching my yard - pellets or cardboard on the lawn, compost on top of them then straw on top of that. Will that work?

I just contacted some of the tree companies in town and let them know they could dump mulch here. So far I've had four 14-foot dump truck loads of mulch dropped off. I've covered the entire yard with cardboard and mulched over the cardboard with wood mulch.

I have raised beds where I have worked in free horse manure from the stables right up the road.

the the wood mulch in the yard is mainly designed to kill off the grass so I can focus my attention on the fruit trees I've planted (and the guilds I'll add in the spring)

Call a couple of local tree companies. They have to PAY to dump those trucks of mulch. So they're more than happy to dump it for free.

Compost first, then cardboard, then straw and pellets as last layer.
