great article! my lawn is uneven and has holes from when the water mail was replaced. can i just level it out over the existing grass with soil and plant seeds or is the process more involved?

Grass will eventually spread and fill the gap. Some weeds will probably pop up there too. I would probably leave it alone. Folks that are less patient could put a little grass seed in there to speed things up.
