I just finished this article on the hackberry tree. I hope it makes for some good winter reading. They are one of my favorite trees and definitely the worst named.Hackberry Article

we have a hackberry on our farm - its the only hackberry that i know of in my area. they certainly arent as common around here.
we bought it because i recognized the name from permaculture books and didnt want to pass it up. glad to hear it has berries and propagates easy.
