I am planning on planting trees densely on my urban lot. I want to grow annuals as well,at least at first. I am going with raised beds for a variety of reasons and I was wondering if having a raised bed adjacent to a tree would negatively affect growth.
I am actually hopeful it will do the opposite, keeping soil loose and trickling nutrients downward,sheltering trees from wind and buffering tempature swings.
I have tried this in one place ,very small scale, with a small raised bed next to a pear tree. The tree has grown well but has only flowered once, it might be getting too much nitrogen.
