What is the plant with yellow flowers in this pic ? (from Sepp Holzer's website)

Looks like gentiana lutea. What do you think?

Gentiana lutea is native to the mountains in middle- and south europe plus the alps. The plant grows very slowly and flowers for the first time when it is 10 yrs old. It can become 40-60 yrs old. The roots are used as a drug to cure absence of appetite.

Wow, I think you nailed it, Dunkelheit, thank you.

Maybe I can use mullein and and get a similar look in the flower bed outside my kitchen window.  Although I don't think mullein flowers are near as beautiful.

Glad to help. Take a look at a lysimachia punctata or a eremurus robustus. The first one has a similar flower design (the flowers are directly below the leaves at the stem) but she grows only up to 1 meter high. The second one grows 2-3 meters high and flowers yellow, too.

another pretty yellow one would be LIgularia the rocket, or you could always grow primroses..some are very similar..or verbascums

Such a pretty plant!
I think Sepp got revenue from growing it, as the roots are medicinal (see this thread for more information) He found the trick to germination was to leave the seeds outside overwinter.
I don't think it wil grow well here - I have a good climate for alpine plants, but it prefers alkaline soils.
