hi all,
as am wondering if there is anyone here on permies that can do things like web design, graphic design or marketing?
seems i have no problem producing tons of great food, but my weak spot is getting that food sold, or at least in front of people that want to buy it. we dont do farmers markets based on our context (40hr regular job + starting a family) so our fall back is our website/facebook page.

i have found facebook somewhat lacking as a marketing tool. its great if you want to pay facebook, but without that i cant seem to get the people im targeting interested.

so this year, we are trying a new/different approach. we are going to build an email/customer list as well as start a more direct marketing campaign in certain areas.

sounds good right? only problem is, i am not good at setting up a website (though we do have one), designing catchy flyers and similar sorts of things. i have some ideas, but my computer skills are not such that i can make whats in my head.... furthermore whats in my head my seem way wrong to someone who actually knows about marketing. for example - often i find that the things i am proud of, the average consumer doesnt care about.

i realize there are other websites that specialize in this sorta 'freelance' design work, but i figured i would start asking here.
thanks in advance for any help.

Howdie! I have been doing design, websites and marketing for the past 16 years. I am a bit like you and have a day job that pays the bills, but would be interested in helping you out on the weekends. Are you interested in barter instead of cash?

If interested please send me a purple moosage (PM).

While building your own page, you can also make Facebook work for you, without spending anything.

Start a Facebook page for your business and a Facebook group for your business activity. Join other related Facebook groups and share your activities. You MUST post photos and even better, videos, for Max effect. Like and comment on other peoples posts in the group and send friend requests to other posters you have engaged with. Send invites to your friends for your page and group.Share your page updates in your group and in other groups you have joined. DO NOT SPAM or blatantly advertise unless this is permitted in the group. Make sure your page updates are interesting and relevant. With zero ad/marketing budget the Facebook strategy will draw more views, and more targeted views, than your website. But you still need your website to send your Facebook generated leads to

we have done all of the things you mentioned.
we posts a few times a week and always add photos or videos. the problem is, facebook doesnt put the info in front of local people - consequently, we have people from all over the world who have seen our stuff and like our page - none of it really does any good as they wont/cant buy my products.

i sent you a pm with a link to my facebook page, i would love additional feedback.
thanks.
