This is a really cool book, and in fact, the only one of it's kind, full of recipes for thermal cooking!

If you've never heard of it before, thermal cooking is basically just cooking in a highly insulated container that is designed to retain heat and cook without the constant application of heat. The more primitive method of doing so is with a haybox - you can find more information on this type of cooking in this thread here.

The only other book we're aware of that has information and recipes like this was written in 1913 by Margaret J. Mitchell.

Cindy Miller's book Let's Make Sense of Thermal Cooking Cookbook: Yesterday's Methods Using Today's Tools is an incredible book, chock full of recipes for everything from pastas to desserts, all of which you can cook with up to 80% less energy than with conventional methods.

Not only will this book teach you the basics of thermal cooking, but it will also give you a jumpstart into food storage techniques, and step by step guide you to create your own freeze dried meals.

You can get it here

Have you every done any thermal cooking? What was it like? What did you use for your container?

Hey cool! They got a blimp! But I have a tiny ad:
A rocket mass heater heats your home with one tenth the wood of a conventional wood stove
