Old silage as mulch?

I have several burst open bales of black wrapped silage.

Apart from growing some very beautiful fungi, they aren't doing anything useful.

Would they be any use as mulch or would that be a bad idea?

The bales are 2 years old.

I believe you have some good and useful stuff on your hands, and it will make wonderful mulch! If you compost, pitch some in the compost pile too!

If its old silage, I think I'd want to get a bit more life into it before I'd use it as mulch. Is there any way you can turn it into an active compost pile first, and then after a couple of weeks, use it as mulch? If you were to mix it with some greens and let them rebuild the microbial community, my hunch is that it will be much more beneficial to your soil.
