Hi guys, long time reader first time poster. I have a few fruit trees in my yard that I planted a ring of garlic around. I was curious if white dutch clover would play nice as a ground cover. I'd like it to suppress the grass and fertilze the fruit and garlic. Does anyone know if this will work? I couldn't find any specific example posts. Thanks!
Alfalfa is very deep rooted. If allowed to grow there for several years, the 2' deep roots will be competing with the tree roots for water and nutrients. It could cause more damage than the weeds that would otherwise have been there. Sure, alfalfa being a legume, will supply some nitrogen, but once your trees outgrow the vegetive stage and begin fruiting they will need more P & K than N.
