I have been trying to identify this plant with no luck.  It dies to the ground every winter and comes back every spring where it can grow to around 3' tall.  It is clumping, no rhizomes and will root very easily from cuttings.  I am in zone 7.

Looks to me like Persicaria, probably Red Dragon, bred by Greg Seichert, who sadly died recently.

At first I thought it was Tradescantia, but after looking at some photos, I don't think so.
Whew, that stuff's a nightmare!

'Red Dragon' Persicaria, I think you nailed it.  I looked at some stock pictures online and saw the flowers are the same.  Thank you!
