I ordered this a few years back and it is about basic bio-security more than anything. Not that it is not good info and
should be required for all new
chicken owners however unless it changed you can find more specific info on poultry diseases, treatments, and other health tips by doing a quick search
online.
I would like to add a bit about bio-security as the DVD is spot on in this regard. Quite simply folks if you (like me) go to the occasional livestock auction, visit
feed stores with live poultry (pick up a soda, get some wildlife corn, and shoot the breeze a bit), or visit other farms you should change shoes, clothes and even
shower before you have any contact with your own poultry especially if you had contact with animals or their droppings at the other location. The reason is you never know what you can bring in and infect your flock (heck all livestock) with. As well if you bring in a few chicks or adult birds (once again any livestock) you should quarantine them for a while well away from the rest of your livestock to make sure the newcomer(s) are healthy and will not transmit anything to your birds. I have seen the results of folks buying a bird (not visibly ill) at auction and taking it home releasing it with the flock and a week or two to a month later they lost their entire flock. The seller also lost his flock and the illness did not show till after the sale so it could have even been contamination from the auction although the area tested clean after this happened. Simply put use
common sense and understand you and your practices are the first line in biological defense of your flock.
