It's really about friendly neighbors.  As long as you're outside the city limits and you don't live in a county corrupted by large cities and the slickers who live there, you should find plenty of rural areas with like-minded people and counties that don't look for trouble, even if they have a lot of stuff on the books ---unless someone complains.  So understanding your neighbors in sight of your land is key and find out during Escrow.  In my case, I found the neighbors to be cool so I purchased the land and moved in with my RV.  But no one could see my RV.  So to be sure, before spending any serious money developing the land,  I built the ugliest greenhouse in another location everyone in the valley could see.  No complaints.

Here in CA I found that it's easier to fight fires than nature.  If I did what the firefighters tell me to do, I would have no time to do anything else in the growing season.  Cut the grass when it's green, they say, so every invasive deep rooted weed takes over later in the Summer, surviving well into the Winter.  And if you accidentally start a fire cutting that stuff, they'll arrest you.  No thanks.  I have water tanks and sprinklers to douse the structures in case any fire comes my way.

Instant Pot Whole Chicken Bone Broth Recipe (adapted from Mary’s Nest on YouTube):

1 very small whole chicken (4-5 lbs)
1 onion quartered with skins on
1 carrot quartered
1 celery stalk quartered
1 bay leaf
1 tbsp peppercorns
1 cup dry white wine
6 cups water

Add chicken first then aromatics to Instant Pot.  Add water to just cover everything.

Cook under Soup/Broth setting on LOW for 2 hours.

When done and depressurized, carefully remove aromatics and chicken with tongs.  The chicken will fall apart, so be mindful which pieces you want to keep intact.  Ladle broth through strainer into a fat separator.  The broth will become gelatinized in the fridge

Make soups with 100% bone broth or dilute with water, adding the separated aromatics, chicken, and the fat to your preference.  Salt to taste of course.

Between the family and dog with an iron stomach for chicken bones, everything is consumed, but for the bay leaves and peppercorns which go to compost.

A quiet piece of land, a garden, and a hut.  That's my aging homesteader's goal.  In my late 50s, I still negotiate with my back each day.  Lots of stuff to get done on the land.  My back and I usually agree on the type of fulcrums, winches, and 2x4 scaffolds I come up with to cover for my physical decline.  I gave up my plans to change the world long ago, and have given up all the "some day" hopium that plagued my 40s, which were both far worse on my back than sacks of concrete.

Just do it.  Don't get bogged down when things fail, as they will.  Give yourself time to think about it.  Rely on your intuition first, before YouTube.  No one can teach you wisdom.  Wisdom can only arise within you.

This is a question for soils scientists re how microbes break things down.  But you can ask Google AI, which has access to all of that...  In the meantime, worry is bad for the heart, while plants love nitrogen.  So I think you should continue what you have been doing.

You must take risks for a chance at what you want. Just do it.
