Hello!

Wondering where folksmight reccomend to live in Northern Wisconsin. I have young kids and would really love to find a nature school, homeschooling coalition, or alternative charter school.

I have read on here about a permaculture group in Northern WI and would love to connect if possible.

It seems like the Rhinelander area is touristy and may be out of budget? Im really looking at the area 30+ miles south of Ashland from Hayward to Phillips? Or the area north of Antigo, between Green Bay and MI.

I would rather stay out of any large towns above 20k people, as I prefer to be very rural, but I also need access to a market for my farm goods, and its nice to have activities to attend a couple times per year in a city.

Any input welcome.
Seems really neat. So have you bought the property outright as of yet? Or is that what you mean by seeking founders? I know someone who would be very interested with sweat equity and knowledge to lend.

My partner and I might be interested in joining. We are looking at relocating to MI. It seems we have a lot  of ideals in common. Our goal is to buy land, so maybe we could be neighbors or we could help you on your land in exchange for a stepping stone type opportunity for us. We have a lot of important permie, homesteading, farming, construction, and community forming skills. We have two kids under 5, a couple horses, poultry, goats and sheep, and a ton of tools and equiptment.

Hello! Looking for ideas about pigs shelters. Im thinking to build a little log cabin as I have extra downed wood that isnt good for the woodstove anymore.

I also am in winter, so i am limited in construction methods. Im in zone 3a, the great white north of america.

To elaborate, we would leave at leave a vehicles width between each terrace except on steep slopes where we knew we wouldn't drive. Always enough space for a walking path. And leaving staggered spaces open to drive at an angle along the hill.

On our farm we just fell trees that are fairly straight and dont have a ton of clbranches(and cut off any that obstruct movrnent) and just lay them along the hillsides to create slow terraces. The grade was anywhere from 15 to 60 degrees and we saw soil accumulation in every one after one year. It helps to also lay in grass or small sticks to prevent erosion under the log.

I'm wondering if anyone has numbers on man hours taken to mill lumber for a small cabin.

I don't have any plans drawn up yet, but I do know I have aspen, birch, and pine to work with. Some oak but that would be for flooring i guess.

Im thinking to do a combination of timber frame and stick built. Maybe some cob or a cordwood room. Not sure what method is quickest! We only have experience with stick built.

I'm hoping to build a cabin for a family of 4, around 1000 sq ft. I have a greenhouse i could use for a kiln to quickly dry the wood. Then build within the same year....so I dont have to live in a camper any longer.
