Found this while browsing and wanted to add my two cents. Are you using a heat mat for germination? It made all the difference for me, especially with more stubborn varieties. Also, once they sprout, shifting them under grow lights can really boost their growth until they’re ready to head outside. How do you guys keep your pepper plants warm enough during cooler nights? Would love to hear more ideas!
I’ve had good luck calling small tree crews directly and asking if they need a nearby drop spot, since they often prefer a quick dump instead of hauling across town. Mine started swinging by once they knew I didn’t mind the occasional mix of pine and hardwood. I’ve also found that fruit trees perk up fast with a thick chip layer, especially in our summer heat, so the effort pays off pretty quickly.

Looks like you’ve got a sweet mix going, and I’m curious how you’re handling cross-pollination, especially with the persimmons and pears. I’ve had years where one tree went all-in and the one next to it just sat there sulking. If you’ve noticed any pairs that really vibe together in your setup, I’d love to hear which ones are playing nice so far.

I’ve snapped a few forks over the years, and the thing that saved my sanity was slowing down and letting the soil tell me what it’s ready for. If it feels like I’m wrestling a bear, I soak the spot or switch tools. A broadfork has become my quiet workhorse for big root jobs, and I only grab the smaller forks once things are loosened up.

I ended up treating stray rhubarb roots like volunteer tomatoes and just potted them up to see which ones had some oomph. If a chunk has a bit of firmness and a visible bud, I tuck it in shallow and keep the soil slightly damp. The ones that take off usually show growth pretty quick, and the weak ones fade out, so it saves space and guessing.

I’ve seen a few small communities fall apart just because folks avoided the awkward talks early on, so I’d put some energy into getting everyone to spell out their dealbreakers and expectations before anyone packs a box. Even a simple written agreement can save a lot of heartburn later. I’d also set up a few test weekends together so you can see how people mesh once the shine wears off.
