Credit: Bill Crim

Paul and Shawn talk to Jacob Lund Fisker of Early Retirement Extreme fame. They go over the a chapter in detail with Jacob’s comments. Jacob and Paul talked about the value of the Wheaton Eco scale and how scales like that are useful. Jacob adapted it to his needs. The story of Ferd and Gert is a parable of financial lifestyle choices. The story of Ferd and Gert is applicable to many things in people’s lifestyles. Paul and Jacob use the story as a framework to talk about how people don’t get happier by earning more. This brings up Leibig’s Law of the Minimum which describes the limiting factors in life and nature are bounded by the scarcest resource. So earning more money won’t make you happier beyond a certain point.
