I'm considering building a rocket mass heater in my basement in the near future.  I understand the theory fairly well.  I know there is a book out there on the subject, but I really don't want to buy it.  My one question is: how much cleaning needs to be done to it?  Is there any buildup of creosote?

The book is $18. I can't remember the last time I did anything to a building for less than that amount. If it prevents you from going wrong it will be money well spent. I'll give you $15 for it when you're done just go don't get it gummed up with clay.

If you click on the permie books at the bottom of the page, Paul gets a few cents to help pay for this site.

This is more just me being curious, but I really do not need another book.  If folks have information on how / where cleaning needs to be done on one of these stoves, that's great.  I'm still kicking around the idea of even building one in my basement.

I understand. Sometimes it is best to get the book to avoid costly mistakes. Check the older posts here under alternate  energy and Rocket Stove and Butt Warmer. They show the clean out shortly after the exhaust exits the bottom of the barrel at the beginning of the exhaust run into the mass bench.
