I had no idea -- the video said it takes 2500 cocoons to make a pound of raw silk, so that would be like 6000 for a kilo! I still want to give this a go one day though.

You should check out some of her other videos.  She has a video where she makes bamboo furniture.  It is fascinating.

Whoa. I was looking for the bamboo furniture one and accidentally found the "quaint handmade solid wood sink." This is, as the youngins say, sick! This woman is permies on wheels. So glad you turned me onto this series of videos. Thanks!

I agree with the other thanks given here. I found her videos a few months back looking for info on sericulture. She deserves all the exposure she gets. Her material is amazing and the video quality is superb. The mood is very Ghibli.

The bamboo furniture one really made me sit up and take note. I want to make my own furnishings on my permaculture place, ive gotten quite a bit of fiber crafts down (weaving, spinning, etc), but the framing was still eluding me. Imna tiny lady, 5 ft, and not the strongest. Carving up treea probably is not going to be in my future, but bending bamboo poles....maybe. yes.
